11月30日 Eight Hours and One Vending Machine Raid LaterThe car needed winter tires (Blizzaks)on, winterization
and the seat heater recall repaired as well.
We went to the dealership, requested a shuttle take us home ( actually several days earlier when we made the appt) for the bulk of the time ( 6 hours).Unfortunately there was wait time when we first arrived at 10 AM and after they picked us up again around 4:30.
We hadn't expected any real wait times beyond the six hours they had estimated for the work , so they strung us along by claiming there were ten minutes left , or the shuttle will be right back.
Hunger overtook us in that last hour and we attacked the vending machine finding only the nastiest snacks represented.
I have so many allergies that I was only able to eat some cheese crackers, and that was still problematic .
The cost for the work was minimal ,and the seat heaters were on recall --so no cost to us.
We don't actually like our buns toasted in the winter ,we had it done purely as a safety precaution so that there would be no chance of a freak electrical fire or something like that .
I found one ladies fashion rag by their tv waiting area
It's all done , but the day had been so long , we forget to get the trash out for today's pickup.
That could prove interesting since we only get service every two weeks. 11月19日 Lying Calenders and Shoppers GaloreIswear it's winter , but that 's not what the date says .
It's so gosh darn cold.
Last year it wasn't that cold yet here .
Thankfully I have found all of Steff's crazy patterned toe socks ( yay for her) ,some more of my wannabe pashmina scarves, mittens and regular socks for me .
I don't need no toe encasing fabrics at this point in my life.My toes like more freedom .
Steff was a riot on our walk this afternoon she was sporting pastel striped cotton tailed bunny toe socks and --brace yourself for this major fashion faux pas--sandals !
Hey, if this was still Texas it could have been flip-flops !
My job has now morphed into a way of life called "fiddling with a computerized register ,laserering stuff and things ,taking money from people with a grin ,then giving them everything wrapped in tons of plastic."
It works.
Forget football & other sports , shopping is this country's nr. 1 pastime .
Grand Opening was a big deal around here .
Like red carpet Hollyweird huge.Photogs standing in the rain to catch all the hubbub.
I was quoted in the local gazette and everything.
Things are definitely getting interesting these days.
11月13日 Workin Gal Checks Back Into BlogvilleWhat a whirlwind of activity this past week has been .
Getting the store ready for it's grand opening this Thursday has been physically taxing and yet emotionally satisfying at the same time .Unpacking merchandise, breaking down boxes, stripping plastic bags off clothing , cleaning, cleaning , cleaning ....
The management team seems honestly appreciative and notices the hard work.
This former Wally Worlder likes appreciation ( besides a paycheck) , because it makes you feel integral in the everyday
running of the business.
Not just like a worker bee, buzzing for naught but pittance pay and begging for a kind word from the bigger cheeses.
Payday isn't for another week , but this first one will be larger until my hours go down to my normal PT availability .
I made it a point to be available as often as possible while I can make the most money and at the same time learn the merchandise and become more familiar with the new -to- me fangled hybrid register ( register/touch screen computer ).
Selling credit to people is a new one on me, but that 's what they want --repeat customers .
Their research shows that those people with a store credit cards buy more and buy more often.
Schmoozing with customers while trying to peddle credit is going to become a new frontier to conquer in April's life in the world of retail .Always a new twist everytime I go back in .
The November Christmas music will be hard to take .
The Xmas push is always annoying to me , but in being a capitalist economy --sell,sell, sell is the name of the game and what keeps me employed .
