Twenty Five to Life

This past Monday, besides being rejected from my first job application in years, was also  my 25th wedding anniversary.

Tom died   before our 20th .

I got married so young , and we were so in love .

I have accepted that he is no longer a physical part of my life, but  not a day goes by that I don't remember his love .
The good moments, the  less good moments,  and the good bye that came way too soon.

Autumn Harvest

We picked up some delicious concord grapes from the farmer's market this afternoon .
They are very fragrant and organic to boot.
The price was just right  , much better than at the supermarket .
Cut out the middle man and things get
cheaper I guess.

Here's a recent acrylic paining by Steff ( yet another one inspired by all the local produce we have experienced  here since May  ) called Sweet Midnight:

No Me Gusta !

They didn't select me  for the  kitchen job.
I'm apparently not good enough to sell pots and pans !

Well, they can just bite my garters!
If I had any that is...

Retail Goddess Wannabe

Remember the onion goggle store I went to in late July ?
Well I decided on a whim to see if they were hiring.
We could frankly use the cash after puppy's expensive inedible snack attack surgery .

Life in the Pioneer Valley ain't cheap , that 's fer dang sure.

They said "Yes!" and off I went with reference letters & phone numbers in hand to fill out the form Monday afternoon.

I thought what a great place to showcase my years of retail experience plus my love of cooking and gadgets .

I could so get into making some loot again too.

I will give them a call to see if  they are interested in me at all.

They would be  crazy to not jump on this opportunity to hire me , the serious foodie  and adventurous cook .

I had to stop myself from buying  anything there, because I cannot go into a cooking store without finding some doohickey to clutter up my sink after a wild afternoon of  experimental menu tinkering.

I walked out of the store  empty handed  with naught but dreams of  employee discounted mini creme brule torches and mini madeleine cookie pans dancing around in my noggin .

She's Back !

and rarin to eat our food.
But she can't have any yet.

Two more days of  bland food  for her.

She's all stretched out on the couch and her Mom has been demoted to  dog bed !

We are so  whipped !

Boiled Potatoes to the Rescue

Soph is still not well enough to come home.

She's doing  ok but
her protein is low ( from an irritated stomach and not eating much  solid food).

We went to see her today , and they asked us to bring her some food from home .

We got some 95% beef from Wellness, plain yogurt  and  boiled local Yukon golds.

Then we did some serious loving on her.
Told her that the couches were threatening to fly away ,
because she wasn't there to hold them down and that  we needed her to help us eat some blueberries  we had left.

This has been a heart wrenching and nerve wracking time for us, actually worse then the glaucoma  and subsequent eye removal. We feel so guilty that we didn't catch all this sooner. This was out of character for her as well. She doesn't eat nonfood items normally.

Can't even talk about the money aspect  , because I am just glad to have it  to use for her .

Her foot with the iv in it was swollen  really large, and her tummy was larger on one side.

They said they needed to re-wrap the foot a little looser and that  the low  protein is what's causing the  fluid  in the tummy.
She's getting plasma now.

We so hope that  she's back on track to her normal life again with us soon.

A house is not a home without houndie gurl in it.

Ms Sophie Q and the Inedible Snack Attack

She spent most of this past Friday  ralphing.

Still going to the toilet, still fairly perky , still checking out our grub .

We went to the vet  in the afternoon and they took tests etc.
At first they thought it was pancreatitis , but then an xray revealed a blockage .
She swallowed  some barium  it seems she has a strand of cloth at the beginning of her intestines that wouldn't budge .

I stayed up with her all night Friday into the Sat  morning as she had to make potty breaks every few hours.

I figured out what she ate  around 1 AM on Saturday morning.

Lil bagel gurl Sophie is currently at the emergency vet recovering from stomach surgery .

Guess who ate pieces of a cotton towel with something yummy on it a few days back?

I swear she's even naughtier sans eyeballs.

The glaucoma was hard on us all , and the subsequent eye removal surgery.

She came out of that with flying colors.

We love Sophie so much , but she's so dang sneaky when it comes to purloining food stuffs.

It's like having a toddler around the place with a super sniffer and cirque du soleil training .

When she was a pup she licked the light socket because my husband had touched it with cheese fingers.

We try so hard to close doors ,put stuff up high, or put away totally--but she always manages to butt doors open and reach stuff if she really wants it.
She is so cossetted and watched  , but we got sidetracked  and that's when she pounced on her opportunity for a
quick munch.

Right now she's recuperating  and wowing the vet staff  with her mad  blind dog skills and perky disposition.

She's set to come home sometime tomorrow if all goes well.

Gosh Durn It !

According to our Local Hero Festival Calendar put out by the CISA ( Community  Involved in Sustaining Agriculture ),
we missed  the Pesto Palooza  in S. Deerfield  on August 26th.

We really like pesto too.Even though  green teeth is not one of our favorite looks.

However, we are making a concerted effort to attend a  honey festival over the weekend.
