9月28日 FeastEddie's Granny turned 84 yesterday ,and so today she hosted a huge lunch for the family, out at her farm. A lovely 100 year old home surrounded by trees, corn fields , grass ,and ponds.I've now experienced it in almost all seasons since I first saw it back in February on my first visit here. I've eaten there often ,and Granny pulls out all the stops and
the dining room table is always brimming with all manner of homemade southern style delectables.
Pork gravy, tender pork , fresh biscuits, fresh cooked green beans , corn ,a multitude of assorted sides , and of course --mmmm-- desserts. More than just the good food and gorgeous locale ,it's the people that lure me back every time.
Eddie's family is incredibly warm and inclusive.I feel very welcome here.
Good company + good conversations + good food = a fun time at any event I've ever particpated in. To be part of an easy going bunch of people is a wonderful thing --no big fights,no dramatic interchanges ( other than a young teen scene ever so often )and a sense of true caring for each other pervades the atmosphere.
Simply put, people who like being together and it shows.
Today was special in another way as well,my Steff decided to come out and be with everyone.
She picks and chooses what she comes to do with Eddie's family.
She's sort of shy , so that plays into this scenario . I am quite a bit more outgoing then
she is , so this is right up my alley.
I am in a really good place in my life, and hope that I get many more chances to fill more days with good times like these.
I know full well that that nothing is a given, that tommorrow is not even promised , and I have lived that lesson .
I relish every moment of this new life that I can for that reason alone.
9月3日 Fall Creeps Ever CloserYes,it's been in the mid 90's for days now and
most of the time I feel like I'm in a brick oven being baked like a fresh loaf of bread.
The purple and pink petunia waves my honey so lovingly tended over the past few months are now gone, and this death scene signals the change of seasons about to transform the countryside within the next three weeks.
Don't get me wrong --
I want milder temps badly, plus fewer bugs would be a nice change of pace.
Autumn has always been my favorite season, as far back as I can remember.Especially being a Halloweenie Baby .
Still, I'll miss those pretty petunias in all their glory draped over the front and back decks here.
At the same time ,seeing my first Kentucky Fall will be an experience in itself that I look forward to with gusto. After having experienced a golden one in New England last year,
I have been promised that this one will not dissapoint.
Here's to crunchy foliage stuck in our shoe soles , and next years petunias .
